Following consultation earlier this year, we now have more information on the Gluten-free Food Review undertaken by the PCT.

It is proposed that following diagnosis by the GP, all supplies of gluten-free foods will be managed by the community pharmacist including an ordering system in line with Coeliac UK guidelines.  The pharmacist will carry out an initial consultation with the patient, followed by six-monthly reviews to consider new products and change quantities if required.  The pharmacist will control gluten-free supplies according to patient requirements and copy information to the GP.

This service will be rolled out gradually across the county and will take some time as there are currently 115 pharmacies in which to implement the system.  The process should hopefully be completed by the end of the financial year.
